Yame no Ri
Famous across Japan as “the king of teas” and “the emerald dew” it is with great pleasure that we present our Yame no Ri blend of Gyokuro green tea, sourced directly from Honmachi, Yame. Gyokuro produced in Yame has received many accolades, including being named the absolute best brand of gyokuro for the past two years at the National Tea Producers Conference.
For this particularly special brand, tea bushes grown high up in the hills of Kurogi are transplanted in limited batches to special huts in Yame. Here, farmers use years of expertise to make sure each plant receives the absolute minimum of UV rays while still staying healthy and strong. This way, precious amino acids such as theanine that are normally burnt out by the sun's rays are retained, resulting in a tea with a far more complex and layered, rich taste.
Tremendous effort goes into making sure this tea is “100% made in Yame”. Each batch of gyokuro is gently fired over charcoal burners, using the exact same techniques that have been passed down for three hundred years. Even the paper trays used to roast the tea leaves are constructed using traditional Japanese paper made right here in Yame! The result is a pure and full-bodied tea that is simple to brew whilst sacrificing none of the flavor that makes it Japan's premier tea. An absolute must try for connoisseurs and those passionate about green tea. For best results, use warm water (around 50 degrees) and allow to steep for 90 seconds.
For cold: dissolve with 30 ml 80 degree hot water, then add 50-70ml of ice cold (15-20 degrees) water
For hot: brew with approx 120-150ml 80 degree hot water.
For brewing instructions please consult our guide page for references. But please remember, tea is an art! Feel free to experiment with different temperatures and times to find your perfect cup.
